Happy New Year! I’m participating in the popular genealogical writing challenge, 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks. The idea is simple. Amy Johson Crow, the creator of the challenge, introduces us to a new writing prompt each week of the year.
We’re starting 2022 with the word “foundations.” Instantly, I thought of the foundation of my passion for family history. Take a look at this adorable, hand-written family “tree” I found in my Mom’s things after she passed in 2013.
I clearly remember bringing this paper to my desk, creating a free Ancestry.com account, and starting my very first family tree – and loving every minute of it! Particularly enthralled with the immigration records of Stephen C. Blasko, our paternal Slovak great grandfather, I recall thinking, “This is just so cool. What else can I find?” Eight years later, my passion for family research is as strong as ever.
